Special Track
About MOOCs, SPOCs, and other OCs
Focus
Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have dramatically increased awareness and interest of the use of technology in educational settings. It is not that the technology used in MOOCs is radically different than what has been used before, but the design decisions taken and the impact have made the world reflect. While it is still unclear what the long-term impact will be, universities are embracing the wave, but are also using MOOC technology in other different contexts. The term SPOC (Small Private Online Courses) refers to the use of MOOC technology in residential closed education. Many other uses and variations are coming up as well.
The objective of the Special Session is to discuss the use and application of MOOC technology with its original intention, but also in other forms that might be of interest. This Special Session at IEEE EDUCON 2014 is organized by the eMadrid Excellence Network funded by the Government of the Region of Madrid emadridnet.org.
