Guided visit to Museo de la Naturaleza y el Hombre

The Museo de la Naturaleza y el Hombre is located in an out-standing building of the insular capital, the Former Civil Hospital of Our Lady of the Helpless ones, who dates back of the year 1745, and that was remodelled at the end of the 19th century by the architect Manuel de Oraá and Arcocha. Its main face is considered to be one of the most qualified examples of the neoclassic architecture of the islands, by what there was declared Good of Cultural Interest, with the category of Monument, in 1983.

Conference Gala Diner

The project of the building of the Casino began with the signature of the preliminary design in 1929 with the architect Michael Martin. Conceived always as a building - symbol. The project had to fulfill two functions, that of social place and that of commercial building. The model of building raised by Michael Martin was the rationalism The best test(proof) of the quality of this work, it is the unanimity with which from the beginning all the partners received her.

Guided visit to Las Cañadas del Teide including visit of the Teide Observatory

The natural boundaries of Teide National Park are marked by a grandiose, spectacular caldera. The Teide-Pico Viejo stratovolcano formed inside this elliptical depression, which measures 16 x 11 km.

8:00am Departure Time. Departure place: Plaza de La Candelaria

9:30am Arrival at the Teide Observatory.

10:00am Start of the guided visit of the Observatory:

• In the area of the MONS telescope, introduction to the importance of the sky of the Canary Islands and to the different areas of research in the Teide Observatory.
• In the visitor centre, a screening and explanation through workshops of what astrophysics is and how astrophysicists work.
• Watching the sun live with telescopes (sunspots, solar prominences or “flares”).
• Visit of a night telescope and interpretation thereof (Carlos Sánchez / IAC-80).

Astrophysics in the Canaries began (in the early 1960s) at this Observatory. It is situated 2.390 metres above sea level in Izaña. The first telescope for studying zodiacal light, light dispersed by interplanetary material, entered service here in 1964.

11:30am End of the visit of the observatory and continuation to the National Park of Las Cañadas.

12:30pm to 2.00pm visit to the National Park and return to Santa Cruz
