Preparing the Future Digital Transformation Experts: Interdisciplinary Learning Pedagogies (PFDTEILP)

Overview

The modern digital landscape is characterized by a constant change affecting the way we live, learn and work. Digital Transformation plays a significant role in contributing towards the European Commission’s priority “A Europe fit for the digital age”. The EU’s digital strategy will empower people with a new generation of technologies.

Digital transformation is widely understood and accepted as the union of technological change and innovative technologies. Of course, digital transformation is not limited to technology innovations; it targets a model of change specifically involving people, process, and technology needs. Today’s ever demanding workplace seeks for employees who have multiple skills to accomplish complex tasks that require more than one expertise and who understand the vision and positive impact of digital transformation. Therefore, technology experts must have interdisciplinary knowledge and skills to apply all these innovative digital processes and tools.

By 2023, 75% of organizations will have comprehensive digital transformation implementation roadmaps which will result in true transformation across all facets of business and society (IDC 2020). Thus, educators are now faced with the following questions: Are our future technology graduates equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to manage digital transformation (people, business processes and technology tools)? Is the existing technology education curriculum appropriate to prepare the future digital transformation experts? To foster enhanced learning, we must now think of ways to integrate learning practices involving a variety of disciplines.

In this special session, we invite scholars to rethink interdisciplinary teaching as an approach that combines different aspects of more than one academic discipline empowering technology-major students to explore digital transformation from different perspectives. We invite discussions on novel pedagogical approaches, methods, and applications useful in interdisciplinary learning that will prepare students to become digital transformation experts.

The session aims to attract research papers and case studies on novel methods and applications related to digital transformation and interdisciplinary learning pedagogies. We invite researchers, developers, and practitioners from various fields, including but not limited to engineering, technology, computer science, information systems, multimedia, communication, business, medicine, linguistics, sociology, psychology, architecture, archaeology, museology, musicology, cinematology, and fine arts working on the following areas:
